Who let the hogs out?
Whatever you call them; pigs, boars or hogs, they have arrived in Michigan. Sightings of feral swine have been reported in Michigan since before the year 2000. Accidental releases of wild boar from private hunting preserves have occurred repeatedly in Michigan since 2004 (the reported and documented cases). The Michigan DNR has encouraged hunters to assist with the eradication of free roaming wild hogs in counties that currently allow this. This website serves as a resource for hunters who want to hunt free roaming wild hogs in Michigan and for hunters that want to join an organization that is positioning itself to monitor and to influence the eventual regulation by the state of wild hog hunting in Michigan. The spread of unregulated wild hogs has already passed the point of casual regulatory control by the state and the question of when there will be hogs in sufficient numbers to sustain regulated hunting is now a moot point. If you doubt this check our the Hogshead Gazette for information regarding the breeding and population spread of hogs. The hogs are here, are you ready?
